Motivation to Keep Writing and Living Life Part 1

Hello,

As I bounce around the writing world here locally in mid-Michigan and different parts of the country, going to book readings, networking, volunteering etc., I am amazed how many people are in the middle of writing books or have always wanted to write a book.  From children’s books to novels to biographies and so on.

It can be a scary process putting your heart and soul out there for other people to read.  I took a series of writing classes when I was living in Florida from well-known published authors and every one of them stated the biggest hurdle they had to face was letting go of their writing to be put out to the publishing world and then hopefully to the world as a published piece of art.

At the time, that did not make much sense to me. I was so excited to hurry up and get the book completed and published.  Here I come, the next great America novel. When I finally felt that my novel was completed, I was terrified to let anyone read the manuscript.  It was my baby.  It was personal. It was therapeutic.  It was written and rewritten so many times with my whole heart and soul.  I wanted everyone to love it! I wasn’t ready to have it criticized or rejected.  Looking back, I now believe that was the reason I kept re-writing it, tweaking it, and trying to get it to perfection, to delay the next step of letting people actually read it.

Then one day I came across the article below that finally made me want the book to be published or kicked to the curb if it is not meant to be the next great American novel.  The process of writing my book was such great joy for me. I didn’t want it to end. And I am now comfortable with that being enough if the book never publishes.

For all of you who want to be future writers or writers in the middle of your first manuscript who are struggling to get finished, this is for you.  It also applies to life if you are not a writer wanna be.

Enjoy
